Skagit Land Trust Earns Seven-Year Accreditation Renewal

Skagit Land Trust is proud to announce that it has again been awarded national accreditation by the Land Trust Accreditation Commission — this time, for an extended term of seven years. The recognition marks the organization’s fourth accreditation application and its third renewal, a milestone reflecting decades of consistent commitment to conservation excellence.

The Land Trust Accreditation Commission, a program of the Land Trust Alliance, oversees the accreditation program on behalf of the land trust community nationwide. Accreditation signals to landowners, donors, and partners that an organization meets the highest standards of land conservation practice.

Accreditation is awarded to land trusts that meet national standards for excellence and conservation permanence. To earn it, each organization undergoes a comprehensive review demonstrating ongoing fiscal accountability, strong organizational leadership, sound transactions, and lasting stewardship of conserved lands. The process repeats on a rigorous cycle every five to seven years.

Skagit Land Trust was first recognized as a nationally accredited land trust in 2009. Since then, the organization has maintained its accreditation through two consecutive renewals, with this April’s award representing the third renewal and the organization’s most significant accreditation achievement to date.

For more than eighteen months, Skagit Land Trust’s staff and Accreditation Committee dedicated significant time and resources to preparing and submitting the extensive documentation required by the Commission. The resulting seven-year accreditation term — the longest available — reflects the depth of the organization’s demonstrated commitment to its mission.

Skagit Land Trust thanks its staff, board, volunteers, and the many landowners and community partners whose trust and collaboration have made this recognition possible. We look forward to continuing to serve the Skagit by protecting and stewarding the lands that define our region.

“Congratulations to the 31 land trusts that successfully achieved first, second, and third time accreditation renewals — these organizations have shown that they are ready to meet the promise of perpetuity.”
